Rave Lucid: ‘Rave’ conjures up partying, hypnosis and trance. ‘Lucid’ because the 12 performers are utterly focused and synchronised in their controlled and energetic movements. This production – which was inspired by battles – is a beautiful tribute to the world of electro. The dancers Brandon Masele (Miel) and Laura Defretin (Nala), whose roots are in electro and hip-hop respectively, started the company MazelFreten in 2016. The duo create dance for the stage at the interface between their individual styles, and their aim is to take electro and hip-hop out to a broader audience.
Rave Lucid from 2022 is the third production created by the company, and the focus is on electro. This style is highly energetic and centred around electronic beats, defined by fast and graphic movements. It came into being in France in the early 2000s, first in the clubs of Paris, and later spreading right across the country and beyond via the Internet.
