The dancers, dressed in stunning costumes, challenge gender norms while combining references to Western classical ballet and music with South African traditional music and dance. HATCHED ENSEMBLE is a continuation of Mamela Nyamza's original and critically acclaimed solo work Hatched from 2007, an autobiographical work in which the choreographer reflected on her life as a mother, lesbian and artist. HATCHED ENSEMBLE is aimed at anyone who has ever felt conflicted about their own identity and questioned where they belong in relation to the status quo.
