This is an invitation to dance and celebrate our gender. Together we will create a
warm and welcoming space where we can process important parts of our process
through multiple art forms with dance at the center. Our wish is to share some tools,
strategies and methods we have developed during the artistic process of A True
Story. Experience is not needed. 71BODIES we believe that everybody can and should dance!

A True Story:
We, transgender people, can not transition alone. We need the entire society to
transition with us. For this we need to hear and consider all sides of the story. The
essence of A True Story is to create around the complexity of all experiences; not
only the transgender person but also how the family experiences the gender
transition of their child, parent, partner or friend.
A True Story is a multidisciplinary project with an artistic focus on dance,
performance and live music. The project is inspired, based and will be performed by transgender kids, teenagers and adults alongside their chosen family members. This
project focuses on transgender childhood, transgender parenthood and family
relationships. This stage production works in parallel with The Magical Book of A
True Story which is an actual book inspired by the protagonists of the stage
performance.
The work is directed and choreographed by Daniel Mariblanca in collaboration with several national and international artists. The stage performance of A True Story consists of: two transgender kids with their chosen family member, three transgender youth with their chosen family member and four transgender adults with their chosen family member. There are six members in the artistic team.
71BODIES is a transgender inclusive dance and performance company based in Bergen. Created by Daniel Mariblanca in 2016, the company continues to naturally evolve in a sustainable way whereby one project inspires the other and the next and so on. A core intention of the company is to work with/in marginalized communities; in particular communities where the body is at the center of the discussion.
– When fighting for visibility and fair representation of marginalized groups it's
important to do it through something you feel passionate about, so that you don't
exhaust yourself in the effort and can endure the battle for years. It is through dance
I can find the energy and the meaning to continue fighting to remove stigma and
generate other narratives, fictions, and new possibilities of how the future can be.
Dance and performance are the central axis to our artistic expression and they give
us the space to connect with our bodies and minds in a deeper way as well as
connecting with the world.
Daniel Mariblanca, Artistic Director of 71BODIES.
