While they are floating 9.–12. november

Based on the personal accounts of refugees, Carte Blanche tackles the issue of asylum, and human impressions such as taste, sensuality and loss.

Refugees tend to be presented as a mass of people, who arrive in large groups. But for every individual asylum seeker, there is a personal journey filled with their own perceptions, choices, experiences, memories and losses. Although the journey is made alongside other people, individuals often feel extremely isolated – responsible for themselves and their secrets. It is these individual stories of transit that Carte Blanche is venturing to encapsulate in this production.

While They are Floating is choreographed by Hooman Sharifi, artistic director of Carte Blanche – Norway’s national contemporary dance company. He arrived in Norway as a young, single asylum seeker from Iran in 1988. He is particularly interested in the artistic expression found in the intersection between dance, theatre and graphic art. Sharifi’s language of movement is physically challenging, intense and powerful, and explores the deeper feelings behind power, political systems and violence.
