The production “SOLO”, by and with Israel Galván, is something as rare as a meeting with a master. In a close encounter with this artist we see how he creates an intense and pulsating production right in front of our eyes through his deep and profound kinship with everything that has to do with flamenco and everything that ever will.

This is the second time we are presenting the newest master of the ancient flamenco dance, Israel Galván from Seville. As a third-generation flamenco dancer, he has gained worldwide renown for his ability to communicate and renew, and to both respect tradition and break with it at the same time.

If you have ever felt the power and passion of flamenco, then you won’t want to miss out on this production. See a master at work! About Galván: At a point of time when dance was still a battle between what was stagnant and what was new, Israel Galván came along and refused to take sides. Enrique Morante has called him “the oldest of the young dancers”.

In his encounter with a dual panorama, when confronted with the defenders of the classical and canonical status quo, he turns everything upside-down in order to offer his version of the conceptual and Baroque flamenco. He reconstructs a modern flamenco dance by using only what used to be flamenco’s exclusive tools.

Recognition is Israel’s point of departure: Mario Maya’s alegrias, El Farucco’s solea, his steps, his quiebras (physical tension) – these are the roots he uses to create a new flamenco. Israel doesn’t fool anyone when he simulates the life of a dancer to the sound of a Mecano song.

Israel Galván says that he learns more by watching a football game played by Manuel Soler than he would at a modern academy. There is no doubt that Israel Galván is a dancer’s dancer when one sees how many dancers are in the audience at his performances. Nor is there any doubt that he is a favourite among singers, who admire his compás (rhythm), since they insist that he integrate bulerías into his modern experiments. There is no doubt that the flamenco of recent years would have been something entirely different if it hadn’t been for Israel Galván.
